The definition of a miracle can be explained several ways. The Bible describes a miracle as something above nature and man or the intervention of a higher power. It can also be described as something being beyond the senses or a divine achievement.
Many people believe that miracles have taken place in their lives. It may have been through the healing of a loved one or an accident with survivors where there should not have been any.
In the Bible, God is said to work miracles through divine commissions. These actions are seen as wonders which create amazement to the beholder. Probably the most amazing miracle of all is the creation of the universe. Other miracles discussed in the Bible are Lot’s wife being turned into a pillar of salt, the burning bush that was not consumed by fire and Aaron’s staff being changed into a serpent.
The story in Matthew that tells of Jesus performing miracles on a man who was blind and mute; or when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead chronicled in John. The story of Jesus turning water into wine is known by young and old alike. Other miracles performed by Jesus are walking on water at Lake Galilee, feeding more than 4,000 people with a loaf of bread and a glass of wine and cleansing the leper. There’s also the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea, the healing a paralyzed man and the one about restoring 10 lepers to health. Other stories in the Bible that describe miracles involve Moses, Elijah and many others.
