Miracles in Sports

Throughout the years, there have been many sporting events, as well as many amazing sports miracles. There are some that remain in our minds like it just happened yesterday. In some of these cases, it doesn't even matter if we are fans of that particular sport or not.

Let's start with boxing and James Braddock's story "Cinderella Man." Right in the middle of the Great Depression, he had won some fights but soon lost many others. He soon found himself fighting just to feed his family. In 1934, he won a few fights, and he was invited to fight the heavyweight champion of the world. Everyone thought that "Cinderella Man" was going to lose, but in fact, he won with a unanimous decision after being in the ring for 15 rounds.

Moving on to baseball, who doesn't remember the "Curse of the Bambino?" The Red Sox hadn't won the world series in 86 years. It was in 2004 that the Red Sox, being three down to the Yankees, came back to win the series against them. They then swept the St. Louis Cardinals to finally win the 2004 World Series.

Nobody can forget the miracle of the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team. Led by the now famous coach Herb Brooks, a bunch of college kids and amateur players from the United States went to the 1980 Winter Olympics. There, they beat the Soviet Union with a score of 4-3. This was astounding seeing that the Soviet Union was the favorite to win the Gold Metal. They then went to beat Finland with a score of 4-2, and won the Gold Medal.
