Miracles are considered something that has happened or occurred that cannot be explained by natural laws or science. In the Old Testament it was believed that God was the one that intervened during an occurrence that changed the outcome. There are many things that are believed to be miracles that Jesus did such as taking a few fish and loaves of bread and was able to feed hundreds of people, or when He brought someone that was dead back to life.
It is not just the Christian Bible that mentions miracles, the Qur’an does as well. The Qur’an believes that something supernatural occurred in the life of a human. Often, they are connected with Muhammad. Some believe miracles to be acts caused by the supernatural. Again, these are all theories of what cannot be explained.
Even in today’s world, there are those that believe in miracles. Some believe when a person suddenly can talk in a different language that they never heard of before, it is a miracle. Anything such as mind reading, trying to interpret dreams or driving the demons out of a person, is considered to be a miracle by some.
In Catholicism, the Pope is the one to decide, with the counsel of others, if a specific deceased person preformed miracles. In order for this to happen, it must be proven, that several miracles have occurred because of someone praying to them. There must be absolute proof that science or medical intervention did not occur in order to cure a person of an illness. Once this occurs, it is submitted to the Pope in Rome and it must be completely investigated.
