Miracles

What are miracles? The definition of a miracle is something that defies the laws of nature, sometimes associated with a miracle-worker. Another definition is that miracles are things that happen when we do not expect them to happen. They can be defined as divine gifts that bring us spiritual growth. It can be defined as simply as an act of God, an amazing event, or a marvelous example. In casual usage, it can mean something like surviving a natural disaster or a severe car accident. We call things miracles every day.

Religious miracles are certainly different from everyday miracles. One of the most famous religious miracles is a statue in Santiago that weeps human blood. The coroner identified the blood as human type O-4 blood. It weeps daily, especially when children are present. An event that was witnessed by millions was the 1995 incident of Hindu statues drinking milk. The media coverage was extensive and the phenomenon occurred worldwide. Scientists could not explain how non-porous metals, such as bronze and gold, could be spoon-fed milk and the milk would disappear from the spoon. It was deemed to be an authentic miracle.

Some examples of miracles in everyday life are a person being cured from an illness after people prayed for healing, even when this was not medically possible; someone experiencing the presence of something he or she calls God and being changed into a different type of person; or someone speaking a language they have never learned.
