Some of the most miraculous births known to man are those of premature babies. These infants are born early and have to fight for their life from day one. One of the most rare and amazing cases is of little Amillia Sonja Taylor. She was born at just 22 weeks, with the normal gestation period for a baby to be in the womb is 37-40 weeks. At her birth, she weighed less than 10 ounces and just over 9 inches long, which is even less than half that of a bag of sugar. Although she had to spend over four months in the hospital, she was released in February 2007, at which time she was progressing nicely at four pounds and 25 inches long.
More recently, after the Haiti earthquake, a young girl was in labor in an open park in Haiti because she was afraid to go in the unsafe ruins of her house. Dr. Baser, from the U.S., was able to get her to a hospital and she was able to deliver a healthy baby girl despite the horrible surroundings and in the midst of the earthquake aftermath.
Another very amazing and miraculous birth story is that of a mother in London in 1999 who was pregnant with triplets, but one of the three babies was growing outside of the womb. This condition is known scientifically as an ectopic pregnancy. This type of pregnancy is the leading cause of death in mothers that are in the first trimester, or the first three months of their pregnancy. The surgeon on this case said that it was the first time that a mother and her babies with a case such as this survived. The obstetrician at the London hospital, Davor Jurkovic, was quoted as saying, “I’ve never seen or heard of a case like this.”
