Miracles in the Bible

In the Bible there are miracles throughout the Old and New Testaments. A true miracle is the divine intervention of God doing something that cannot be explained in the natural world. God uses miracles to heal the sick, punish the wicked, feed his people, increase their faith, to predict the future and much more.

In the United States, we celebrate Christmas and Easter, both of these holidays are founded on miracles in the Bible. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that Jesus' mother was a virgin when she conceived it was a miracle. This miracle was predicted by Isaiah well before Jesus was even born. It is in the book of Isaiah chapter 7:14. This was a miracle in many ways, remember the shepherds in the field who were visited by an angel of the Lord and he told them that the Savior is born.

Easter is the other holiday celebrated based on a miracle from the Bible. The Bible tells that Jesus was crucified on the cross, was buried, and after three days and three nights he rose from the dead. The Bible predicted this miracle more than once in the Old Testament. You can find the predictions in Psa. 16:10, and Isa. 26:19. Jesus predicted it in Mat. 20:19, Mar. 9:9, and John 2:19. Even Jonah getting swallowed by a whale and being inside the whale for three days and three nights was symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus. God is a great teacher, and there is always something to be learned from the miracles in the Bible.
