Miracles of Children Being Born

The process of childbirth is a miracle in itself. However, when babies are born with conditions where they are not expected to live, but they do, this is the ultimate miracle.

Mallory Cooper was born with Hirschsprung’s disease. This disease is the result of a lack of nerve endings in the intestinal system. Her entire colon and part of her small bowel were affected. She had to have more than 17 major surgeries. She was in and out of Children's Mercy Hospital for the first five years of her life. She thanks the people at this hospital for making her life easier from the time she was born until now.

Erin and Jake made the decision to let doctors separate their conjoined twin daughters at the age of 4 years old. The most serious problem was that the two girls shared one kidney. The surgery was successful. One twin got the shared kidney and their mother donated a kidney for the other twin. There were a few other obstacles, but the girls are now six years old, in first grade, and doing quite well.

Little Brody was born prematurely at 29 weeks as his mother was having a very troubled pregnancy. Brody ended up spending 51 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He has chronic lung disease, osteopenia of prematurity, and a fistula that may need surgery eventually. He has to visit many specialists. In spite of all of this, his prognosis is very good at 22 months.
